Clash Royale: Best Royal Ghost Evolution Decks

Surprise your opponents with a royal spooking.

The new Royal Ghost evolution has a lot to offer. It almost immediately made its way to the top of the meta, and it’s not hard to see why. Royal Ghost’s biggest strength is his invisibility, but the evolution finally gives him the damage boost he needed to make it to the top. In this article I’ll take a quick look at Royal Ghost’s evolution, then I’ll talk about three great decks right now featuring him!

How to Play Royal Ghost Evolution

Royal Ghost’s evolution adds one new major feature. Whenever the Royal Ghost leaves invisibility, he spawns some royal guards to help him out. These guards do damage upon spawning and also contribute DPS, so they’re extremely valuable. It really can’t be overstated how much better this makes Royal Ghost. Where in the past it was a pretty generic tank that could do some good damage, now the damage is massively increased. While I won’t say this is the most exciting evolution, I really appreciate it anyway. The spawn damage is the best feature here in my opinion, but the whole evolution is easily one of the best they’ve made so far.

I don’t think the evolution changes the role that Royal Ghost plays in a deck, but it does enhance it. He’s always been more defensively oriented, but now he’s much stronger in the fights he gets into. The invisibility has also always made it easier for him to reach towers than most troops, and now the damage increase makes this a more lucrative option. He still isn’t a win con or anything like that, but he’s extremely dangerous now. In the past you could kind of ignore him if your opponent used him, but now he requires more attention. If you let an evolved Royal Ghost slip by unnoticed, you’re likely to lose a tower.

Royal Ghost + Skeleton Barrel

This is one of the decks I saw getting used in the recent CRL 20-Win Challenge, and it seems to work pretty well outside of that tournament too. The real strength here is in spamming Skeleton Barrels and Wall Breakers while relying on Royal Ghost for defense. We also have some more defensive cards, with Dart Goblin in particular really good at backing up either Royal Ghost or Rascals.

This deck is all about offense. It’s a very spam-heavy deck, which works well with the evolutions. You’ll have no trouble having evolved Royal Ghosts and Skeleton Barrels ready to go. The only downside is choosing between whether to have Skeleton Barrel or Wall Breakers in the evolution slot. Wall Breakers are really strong, but since the Barrel flies, I do think it’s the more reliable option overall. However, if you prefer Wall Breakers (or don’t have the Barrel evo) you could definitely switch them.

When it comes to the defense, Royal Ghost and Rascals are your best troops. Bomb Tower is a really strong building since it has high HP and does damage after being destroyed, and of course there’s also Vines. Barbarian Barrel is a must-have since it’s the only way for this deck to reliably deal with Goblin Barrel and swarms, so make sure not to use it until you really need it.

Royal Ghost + Royal Giant Deck

This is one of the top rated Royal Ghost decks I’ve seen, so I felt I had to include it. This is a really basic Royal Giant deck, but with the Royal Ghost added in. Typically that spot would be filled by a ranged troop like Firecracker or Archers, so the Hunter fills an important role as their replacement. Other than that change, everything else is the same. The whole goal is to play Royal Giant as often as possible, as he’s almost guaranteed to do a chunk of damage to the nearest tower.

Fisherman is a key component of this deck since he can both handle charging troops like Hog Rider and pull threats away from Royal Giant. If you time it perfectly, he’s great for making sure a Mini P.E.K.K.A. or something similar doesn’t have time to kill the Giant. The rest of this deck is for cycling cards and defending via spells. Fireball and Barbarian Barrel are both S-tier spells right now, and Skeletons and Electro Spirit are the best 1-elixir cards for this deck. Skeletons can distract many troops that target individually, and Electro Spirit can help counter Inferno cards.

You do have to play aggressively with this deck, but since Royal Giant is such a reliable win con, you can also win with one strong push. That’s why Royal Giant decks are so strong. Even if you get beat early, you can always make a comeback. They’re like a less elixir-heavy version of a Golem deck, but much more consistent.

Royal Ghost Lavaloon

This is a deck that I did actually make myself, even if it’s basically just a copy of Lavaloon with Royal Ghost added in. However, I feel like this deck works really well in both ladder and challenges. We have the typical Lavaloon package of Lava Hound + Balloon, as well as Baby Dragon as the second evo, which is usually the case with Lavaloon decks. Where it differs is the addition of Goblins for cheap ground defense and Rage to speed things up, as well as Royal Ghost, of course.

Royal Ghost’s role in this deck is the same as in any other: defend. He’s great for taking out almost any ground troop, so he’s an invaluable resource. However, he’s also strong when attacking too. I wouldn’t recommend focusing on Royal Ghost as a win con, but if you do manage to get an evolved one to a tower, he does really strong damage. The guards he spawns will also attack towers, so it’s perfect for DPS. And since he’s invisible, he won’t start taking damage until he’s already at the tower. The Lavaloon combo is still the main win con of this deck, but it is worth remembering how powerful a Royal Ghost can be when chipping away at a tower.

I recommend playing this deck pretty much the same as Lavaloon (very patiently), but the additional ground defenses do allow you more room for mistakes. Goblins, Tombstone, and Royal Ghost can handle most ground threats, and the Lava Hound, Balloon, Baby Dragon combo is more than capable of 3-crown victories.
